THE CHILEAN GOVERNMENT AND UNDP RECEIVE AN AWARD FROM A MUNICIPALITY IN HONDURAS FOR A CHILE FUND PROJECT
During an event at the main office of El Canelo de Nos to introduce Socially Appropriate Technologies (SAT), a delegation from Agencia Chilena Chilena de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AGCID) and the UNDP Country Office Chile looked back over more than three years of cooperation between this Chilean NGO and the Chile Fund, during which they have worked together to apply sustainable projects in Central America such as Improving the quality of life of rural communities with socially appropriate technologies in El Salvador and Honduras.
At the event the director of El Canelo de Nos, Óscar Núñez, handed over an Award from the Municipality of Marcovia (Honduras) made to the Chilean Government and UNDP in recognition of the help given to 31 families in highly precarious economic and social conditions. The award was received by Mr Patricio Pradel, Chief of Staff of the Foreign Affairs Undersecretary, who stressed that “this project focuses on people and it is the sort of international cooperation that we as a government are keen to encourage”.
Alejandra Alarcón, Coordinator of the UNDP-EU Joint Programme to Combat Desertification, said that “through this experience we have been able to see how South South Cooperation has an impact on communities through projects from which both the beneficiaries and the people implementing them can learn”.
